Lying in bed with the flu, feeling like I was on the verge of death, seemed like an appropriate time to watch a movie that opens with Boris Karloff on his deathbed, deliriously foreseeing his return from the dead.

Dracula sighted in Kingston, Canada!

Anthony D.P. Mann, co-host of 'Horror Etc' (a podcast The Monster highly recommends), has recently released a DVD of 'Canucula', which he wrote, directed and stars in.

The story tells of Dracula's return in modern day Canada, and is "a celebration (and shot in the style of) those beloved Universal horror films of yesteryear".

Vintage Horror

There are many, many horror and sci-fi related podcasts out there, as a quick browse on iTunes will confirm. So, as promised a few weeks ago, The Monster will be helping his readers discover the best of the bunch.

Are the much derided late Hammer Dracula movies of the early '70s actually masterpieces?

Almost certainly not. But they are nowhere near as bad as some would have you believe.

Edison's Frankenstein

The Monster was watching Thomas Edison's "Frankenstein" the other day and was thinking just how lucky we are that this 'lost' film was re-discovered.

What a magnificent transformation sequence! It is remarkable not only for its technical achievement (the special effects are very impressive for 1910) but also for being so dramatically effective.
